Questions and Answers about Face2Vase

Q: What’s up with the name Face to Vase?

A: Visitors (Faces) view collections of interest (Vases).

Questions and Answers

Q: How did you come up with this idea ?

A1:   As an artist, I have shown in galleries and coffee shops and have had work in stores. There is a limited amount of power the collector/maker has over these spaces. I wanted to show my own work on my own time and make a little bit of money. I can change my displays around, put up work outside if I want to, and leave it up as long as I like. I get to meet people who are interested in my work. Since they commit up front to pay for the tour, I get the feeling that they respect my work even if they don’t buy it and that makes me happy even before they arrive. I like to give them a good value for their tour money, by providing reading materials, lots of artwork, and snacks!

A2:    As a visitor, I’ve often longed to explore an old barn sitting by the roadside. What if the barn owner had a Face to Vase tour and I could pay 20 bucks to talk with them about the old tools and architecture? Would I do this? Yes! I may not buy an antique tractor to lug home but I would value the knowledge the maker/collector passed on to me.

A3:    As a family member, I have traveled with others who have different wishes. On one trip the desire was to milk a cow. What if that was on Face to Vase? Would I do this? Possibly not, but others might!

About the $:

Q: Why would I pay someone to see their work or experience their collection?

A: If you don’t want to pay, don’t. This saves both of you time and money and frees the maker/collector up to make/collect things.

Q: if a person buys a piece, does the $20 tour fee go toward the price of the piece they bought?

A: Visitors and maker/collectors can work out whatever deal they wish. Face to Vase retains 10% of the tour price regardless to help pay for administration costs.

Q: Why don’t you have an art walk? That way people only pay for a map?

A 1: Face to Vase is not just for art.

A 2: If you pay an organization for a map, the maker/collector may
not get paid unless you buy something.

A 3: Art walks are limited to a specific time and place.

A4: Face to Vase is not just for art

Q: What if there is more than one place I’d like to visit but don’t want to spend more money?

A: Choose carefully, save up your money, suggest Face to Vase as a gift from someone……..

Q: How do I share my experience on a 1 – 5 star level?

A: Please contact Face to Vase at visiblegap@chiniak.net

Q: How do I pay?

A. Please pay the maker/collector when you arrive at their space. Cash or check payment unless otherwise noted. Please be honest

Q: What does Fase to Vase get from this?

A: In addition to the fun of working with makers/collectors and visitors, Face to Vase receives 10 % of each transaction. The maker/collector is responsible for payment to Face to Vase. Please be honest
